Incident Details
Firefighters responded to 1144 Morraine View Drive for a smoking electrical wall outlet. An occupant of the apartment building met Ladder 7 and explained that an outlet in the kitchen suddenly began to spark. She unplugged her Keurig coffee maker, which was plugged into the outlet but was not being used at the time. After the Keurig was unplugged, sparks subsided and smoke began to push out from the outlet. That's when the occupant called 911.
Upon entering the apartment unit, firefighters noted an electrical odor and a slight haze in the apartment. There was no active fire. Firefighters found the breaker box and disconnected electricity for the entire apartment unit. Property management was informed that an electrician will need to repair the issue, and the occupant was advised that power should not be restored until the electrical hazard was addressed.
Firefighters monitored the electrical outlet with a thermal imaging camera and confirmed temperatures were going down. Firefighters also cleared the hazy smoke from the apartment.
